At three weeks into the new year Legacy Fighting Alliance are already holding their second event, this time with Bobby Moffett vs. Thanh Le for the interim featherweight title and a chance to face current champion Kevin Aguilar. LFA 31 takes place January 19th at the Comerica Theatre in Phoenix, AZ with a main card broadcast on AXS TV.
Bobby Moffett may have more experience but 7-1 Thanh Le is the odds favorite to win in the main event. Bobby Moffett holds a record of 10-2, 2-1 in RFA and 1-0 in LFA. After losing a unanimous decision to Raoni Barcelos in June 2016 Moffett picked up wins in RFA over TJ Brown that December and LFA over Nate Jennerman last August. 7-1 Le is mainly known for going 1-1 on 2015’s TUF Season 22 with a win over Andres Quintana and a loss to Martin Svensson. Le bounced back with a wins over Cody James and Alex Black before winning his DWTNCS bout against Lazar Stojadinovic. Le has always been known for his striking but in the past year he has worked with fellow TUF 22 vet and ADCC Worlds 2009 bronze medalist Ryan Hall, the question being has his limited time with Hall truly rounded his striking.
In the co-main event 8-1 Ian Heinisch takes on 13-5 Daniel Madrid at middleweight. Heinisch is coming off his first professional MMA loss which was against Markus Petez at LFA 22 in September. Heinisch also defeated Tyler Vogel at WSOF 29 in March 2016 and made a successful LFA debut against Lucas Rota last March. Madrid’s six-fight win streak was broken in his latest bout, a TKO loss to Alex Nicholson in regional promotion Iron Boy MMA.
