Kid Peligro Jiu-Jitsu News . . . Day 1 of Abu Dhabi Grand Slam

DAY 1 OF ABU DHABI GRAND SLAM® JIU-JITSU WORLD TOUR IN ABU DHABI BEGINS SUCCESSFULLY

Adam Wardzinski [94KG Adult] and Ricardo Evangelista [110kg Master1] have made it to the finals of their black belt categories

UAE players won a total of 11 medals [3 Gold, 3 Silver and 5 Bronze] in different weight and belt categories

Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, 12th January, 2018: Abu Dhabi Grand Slam® Jiu-Jitsu World Tour fourth leg in Abu Dhabi began today with the purple, brown and black belts [male and female] at the Mubadala Arena for a full day of skillful fights on the nine mats. The talented players from around the world, across different weight categories, including the newly formed ‘Teen Division’, performed at the top of their level with action packed fights and went after their share of the US$190,000 in prizes.

The event was attended by Sheikh Zayed bin Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan, H.E Abdulmunem Al Hashemi, Chairman of UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation®, President of Jiu-Jitsu Asian Union & Senior Vice President of Jiu-Jitsu International Federation and H.E Mohammad bin Dalmouj Al Dhaheri, board member of UAEJJF.

With passionate fans in attendance and the viewers across Abu Dhabi Sports TV and the 18 TV Partners from around the world, witnessed six hours of the gentle art and were treated to an exciting and high paced set of fights between some of the top brown and black belt players.

H.E Mohammad bin Dalmouj Al Dhaheri, board member of UAEJJF said, “This was a very successful event hosted here in Abu Dhabi at the Mubadala Arena, I am very pleased to witness how far the Grand Slam has come. I would like to congratulate all the competitors who took part today and for the black belt finalists tomorrow. Tournaments like the Grand Slam, helps us build and propel our youth to the next stage of their careers and grow the sport of jiu-jitsu”

Mr. Tareq Al Bahri, Director of Abu Dhabi Grand Slam said “One of the main reasons why we took the decision to bring the Abu Dhabi Grand in Abu Dhabi, was to give an opportunity and a platform to the players in the Middle East region and also the youth Emirati players to perform in an international level competition, gain that vital experience and further their skills.”

The day began with an exciting new teen division at 10am and as always the fan favorite black belt division never fails to excite, and the players did exactly just that with fast-paced tactical matches for the delight of the crowd at the Mubadala Arena.

After making it to the finals of the Masters 1 black belt, 110kg category, Ricardo Evangelista said “First of all I would like to thank UAEJJF, my coaches and team mates at Commando Group, without them this would not be possible. I am looking forward to the finals tomorrow against Nei Nascimento, I was looking forward to this tournament after I won the gold in Rio Grand Slam, so it is great to come back to my second home in Abu Dhabi and hopefully win the gold again.”

Yara Kakish from Jordan won the Gold medal in the Female Purple belt 70kg category said, “it was a great event, it’s a huge experience, we look forward to it every year. You can see every year more and more players are signing up and it is becoming more difficult. We are training super hard to win and thank God today I got the medal and we look forward to the Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship in April”

Emirati Saoud Al Hammadi, who won Gold in the 85kg Master1 purple belt category said, “Abu Dhabi Grand Slam is really an amazing event, it is at the highest level and many players from the clubs get the chance to compete against top level players. I’m very happy to win the gold and I dedicate it to my teammates, coach and club”

Day two of the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam in Abu Dhabi continues tomorrow 13th January from 11am to 6pm UAE time, at the Mubadala Arena, where the top Black belt players will compete, including Ricardo Evangelista, Joao Miyao and Adam Wardzinski among others.

Day 2 of the event will be broadcasted live on Abu Dhabi Sports TV in UAE & MENA from 11pm UAE time, Combate in Brazil from 9am Brazil time, worldwide live stream on FloGrappling.
