Mackenzie Dern to make UFC debut in March

Jiu-Jitsu world champion Mackenzie Dern (5-0) will make her octagon debut in March when she faces TUF 23 vet Ashley Yoder (5-3) in a women’s strawweight matchup at UFC 222. News of the matchup was announced this week.

UFC 222 will be held March 3 from T-Movile Arena in Las Vegas. A main event for the card has not yet been determined.

Dern is a 2015 ADCC World Champion and multi-time World Jiu-Jitsu and Nogi World Jiu-Jitsu Champion. The 24-year-old Arizona native has a perfect 5-0 record in mixed martial arts, most recently submitting Kaline Medeiros at Invicta FC 26 in December.

Dern fought her first four pro MMA bouts under the Legacy banner, scoring submission wins in three of them. She is the daughter of BJJ legend Wellington “Megaton” Dias.

Yoder has dropped both her UFC appearances since appearing on The Ultimate Fighter season 23 in 2016. She first dropped a unanimous decision to Justine Kish in Dec. 2016 and most recently lost a unanimous decision to Angela Hill at the TUF 25 Finale last July.

Prior to that, Yoder had one fight under the Invicta FC banner where she submitted Amber Brown in Nov. 2016. A BJJ purple belt under Ricardo Feliciano, “Spider Monkey” has finished four of her five career victories via submission and one by decision.
