Action starts at 10 pm ET
Former lightweight champion Rafael Dos Anjos looked like an absolute beast in his second outing after moving up to welterweight. He landed a leg kick that dropped Magny and then took top position. RDA mauled Magny and eventually got to mount where he landed some big blows before sinking in an arm triangle, submitting Magny at 3:43 of the first round to collect his second win at 170. He said after the win he’s coming for the welterweight belt.
Henry Cejudo looked exactly like the man that many predicted would eventually become Demetrious Johnson’s greatest rival when the former Olympic wrestler decided to turn his attention to MMA just four years ago. “The Messenger” just demolished Wilson Reis, unleashing a devastating striking arsenal before dropping Reis in the second round and finishing him by TKO at :25. Cejudo landed 34 significant strikes at 61 percent total striking in just under six minutes of fight time.
Jeremy Stephens studied the blueprint laid out by Edson Barboza in Gilbert Melendez’s last fight at 155 pounds: deliver brutal leg kicks. Melendez has a wide stance and Barboza capitalized on it, as did Stephens, who dropped Melendez multiple times in the fight with consistent and thudding leg kicks. Melendez continued to get up each time, at one point even receiving a nod of respect from Stephens, but he ultimately lost by unanimous decision, 30-26, 30-26, 30-25. Stephens won the significant strike battle, 94-48.
THEY SAID IT:
Jeremy Stephens: “ It feels incredible to get the win tonight. Gilbert is as tough as they come so I knew that he wouldn’t stop but there were a couple of moments where the referee seemed like he was going to stop it. Once, I kicked him and the referee stepped in front of me but he never waived off the fight so it was a little strange but it was a fun scrap. I’m not thinking about anything else but going home and getting married right now. I’ll figure out what’s next after that!”
Ketlen Vieira pulled off a phenomenal come-from-behind victory when she caught Sara McMann in an arm triangle submission, forcing McMann to submit at 4:16 of the second round. McMann was landing big shots in the first round with some nasty ground and pound. A huge hematoma formed on the forehead of Vieira, but she came out undettered in the second round and eventually landed a takedown and eventually submitted No. 6-ranked McMann.
In her third career UFC fight, Sarah Moras earned her most impressive victory yet. Moras submitted veteran Ashlee Evans-Smith via an armbar in the first round.
Rick Glenn earned his second consecutive victory at UFC 215 on Saturday. Glenn outstruck Tucker 184 to 43 en route to a decision victory.
Alex White kept connecting in the second round against a tough Mitch Clarke, who refused to fall. As the significant strikes continued to mount the Canadian finally was saved by the referee, giving White the win by TKO at 4:36 of the second round. It was White’s best UFC appearance to date, as he finished 57 total significant strikes and landed at a 51 percent clip in the fight. Clarke’s face was badly battered and the Edmonton fighter announced his retirement from professional MMA after the loss, which was his third in a row. He finishes his career with a 11-5 record. FS1
Arjan Singh Bhullar made his historic debut in Edmonton and came away with a unanimous decision win (29-28, 29-28, 29-28). Bhullar landed a few big shots, opening a cut over the right eye of Henrique during the fight. In the second round, Bhullar dominated, landing a few big shots and a big takedown that secured the win. The first Indo-Canadian fighter in UFC history said after the fight that India’s 1 billion population is now a part of the UFC and he’s coming for the top fighters in the heavyweight division.
Kajan Johnson and Adriano Martins weren’t the most active through 10 minutes in the opening fight of the card in Edmonton, but Johnson made up for the slow start with a big finish. Johnson threw a straight right hand that landed just behind the ear of Martins, knocking him out cold at :49 of the third round.
