Former flyweight title challenger John Moraga (16-6) will welcome Australia’s Ashkan Mokhtarian (13-1) to the octagon at UFC Fight Night 110 in June. UFC officials recently announced the bout.
UFC Fight Night 110 will be held on June 11 from Vector Arena in Auckland, New Zealand. Hard-hitting heavyweights Derrick Lewis and Mark Hunt will clash in the main event.
Moraga challenged Demetrious Johnson for the UFC flyweight title back in July 2013 but was submitted in the fifth and final round. Since then the 33-year-old Phoenix native has been able to put together wins over the likes of Dustin Oritz, Justin Scoggins and Willie Gates. However, Moraga is currently on a three-fight skid, most recently dropping a unanimous decision to Sergio Pettis at UFC Fight Night 103 in January. With an overall record of 5-5 inside the octagon, Moraga is presently ranked No. 11 in the UFC’s 125-pound division.
Mokhtarian will make his octagon debut boasting a six-fight winning streak with five finishes. The 31-year-old Australian Top Team product is coming off a 27-second knockout of Kan Hamongkol on the Australian regional circuit in February. And before that Mokhtarian defeated Shannon McClellan for the Eternal MMA bantamweight championship in April 2016. The Sydney native has won multiple regional titles and has scored six of his 13 wins by knockout and six by submission.
