World Series of Fighting has announced an additional title fight for their upcoming New Year’s Eve event. Middleweight and light heavyweight champion Dave Branch will put the 185-pound title on the line against Louis Taylor. The bout will be on the preliminary card of WSOF 34, which takes place Dec. 31 at The Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
Branch has been fighting exclusively for WSOF since joining the promotion in 2012. He became the promotion’s inaugural middleweight champion after besting Danillo Villefort and Jesse Taylor to win a four-man tournament. He then defeated Jesse McElligott and Teddy Holder to win another four-man tournament and take the inaugural light heavyweight title. In his last outing, he scored a decision victory over ADCC champion Vinny Magalhaes to defend the 205-pound belt.
Taylor is currently riding a six-fight winning streak that dates back to 2012. His last two victories have come over Cory Devela and Phil Hawes under the WSOF banner. Taylor had been scheduled to face Shamil Gamzatov at WSOF 32, but the promotion cancelled all events before New Year’s Eve.
In the main event of WSOF 34, lightweight champion Justin Gaethje will put his title on the line against João Zeferino. Also on the card, veteran Jon Fitch will defend his welterweight title against former Strikeforce and Elite XC champion Jake Shields.
